is home to the widest imaginable variety of award winning
restaurants, the enormous Broadbeach Convention Centre,
Jupiter’s Casino and Pacific
Fair shopping centre along with Kurrawa
Surf Lifesaving Club which overlooks the beach and
is often the venue for National Championships. Visit
the Lantern Markets from September to May or Beachfront
Markets at Kurrawa Park on the first and third Sundays
of the month. Picnic or BBQ in Kurrawa Park or Cascade
Gardens or perhaps Albert Park at Broadbeach Waters
which has bicycle and walking paths around the lake.
The Gold Coast
Turf Club is close by at Bundall near the site of
the first racecourse and cricket club which opened in
1877.
The Mermaid Beach
Surf Lifesaving Club is the hub of well to do MERMAID
BEACH and Hedges Ave is the Beverly Hills of
the Gold Coast as it contains some of the most expensive
real estate in Australia. John Oxley, Surveyor General
of New South Wales, Robert Stirling, a cartographer
and John Uniacke, a colonial officer landed from the
cutter ‘Mermaid’ on a Gold Coast beach in
1823 and subsequently on 11th September 1946 the name
Mermaid Beach was approved by the Queensland Minister
of Lands. Oxley also named the Tweed River further south.
Beautiful Mermaid Beach is close to the restaurant precinct
at Broadbeach, shops at Surfers Paradise, markets at
Carrara Markets
as well as challenging golf courses like Emerald
Lakes.
BURLEIGH HEADS offers the fabulous
Burleigh Heads National Park with great scenery and
a range of wildlife, as well as more great Gold Coast
beaches. Visit David
Fleay’s Wildlife Park too. Gaze upon striking
coastline views from Burleigh Heads and picnic or BBQ
in the beautiful, tree-lined, beachside parks or visit
one of the splendid local restaurants and take in the
Art and Craft Markets.
Take a walking trail along the coastline and enjoy the
views, fresh air and cool sea breeze. Motels and Apartments
